Faux wood blinds vs wood blinds

Faux wood for kitchens, baths and durability; real wood for warmth and weight — and what we actually make.

The honest summary

We make 2-inch faux wood blinds. We do not currently make real wood slat blinds. If you want real wood at the window, our basswood plantation shutters are solid wood — a different product, but the one to look at.

So this guide is less a sales pitch than a straight comparison, so you can decide whether a faux wood blind is the right thing for your window or whether you should be looking elsewhere.

Where faux wood wins

Faux wood slats do not warp, crack or fade the way real wood can when it lives next to a shower, a sink or a south-facing pane. They wipe clean. And they cost less for the same size and the same 2-inch slat.

  • Kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms
  • Rentals and high-use rooms
  • Budget-conscious whole-house projects
  • Any window that gets wet or steamy

Where real wood wins

Real wood is lighter for the same slat size, which matters on very wide windows where a faux wood blind gets heavy to lift. It also has grain and warmth that a printed finish does not fully match, and it can be stained to match furniture.

If that is what you want, consider a basswood plantation shutter: solid wood, louvers you tilt by hand, and a built-in look that stays with the house.

What our faux wood blind offers

Cordless or corded lift, wand or cord tilt, a crown or modern 3.25-inch valance or none, inside, outside or exact mount, and a tile-cut option for the bottom rail. Cordless runs from 10 to 96 inches wide and 20 to 96 inches high. Made to order in about a week.
